As you all know I am participating in Camp NaNo this August. This is my second attempt after only managing to get 8,000 words last year.
The name of this years novel is called 'A New Lease Of Life' and i am going to post an excerpt of it below along with a cover i designed for it. Enjoy and tell me what you think :)
Excerpt
The sun was beginning to sink lower in the sky as another scorching hot
day drew to a reluctant close. The evening air was hot, sticky and yet
very humid and seemed to show no sign of relenting. The sky was a deep
shade of purple, reflecting the last of the suns rays as well as casting
large dark and sinister shadows across the earth.
Houses were
vacant however, or at least it was empty of the young. As although the
older generation may have that specific evening too warm to do anything
strenuous, the younger generation parties. Or at least the stereotypical
teenager does.
In a bedsit located near the outskirts of a town
north of England, a young girl aged about nineteen prepares to go out.
Her skin at least two shades darker than what could ever be perceived as
natural and eyes rimmed with eyeliner and mascara the girl picks up her
bag and slings it over her shoulder and heads for the door. Once
outside she pulls out her mobile phone and begins to text as her feet
take her almost automatically to the secluded park nearby. She seems to
be an ordinary girl, and in many ways she is, or to put it another way
‘was’ because what happened next made her name known by many. What
happened next changed a life. I only know this from what i have seen,
and you may think i am completely mad when i say that what i have seen
has come from memories or visions of sorts inside my head but just hear
me out please because this will begin to explain how I arrived at your
doorstep several weeks ago and how i know so much of the events on that
fateful night. My name is Rupert Blackaby and this is how your daughter
changed my dull, boring and monotonous life forever....
